The Aiming High Project
The
Aiming High Project is a
national project initiated
by the DfES in October
2003. This project
addresses the
underachievement of
African-Caribbean pupils
including those of mixed
heritage where one parent is
African-Caribbean.
The aim is to enable Secondary Headteachers, teachers and Learning Support Staff to assess the extent to which their school can improve provision for African-Caribbean pupils.
The Project offers guidance and suggestions for key activities to raise levels of achievement and gives examples of schools where good practice has taken place.
Schools in 20 LEAs across the country are involved, including Croydon, where the only school targeted is Haling Manor High School. The School has reported dramatic improvement in its SATs and GCSE results and hope to see even greater improvements in the future. Further information about the work at Haling Manor is available if you contact Peter Whear on 020 8681 1141
