Primary Strategy: Learning Networks
The primary strategy is now beginning a programme to support networks of primary schools. The intention is that, by 2008, the majority of schools will have the opportunity to be part of an effective network that supports good teaching and improves pupil learning.
The link below provides an introduction to the networks, looking at their benefits and answering common questions. The criteria for successful networks are identified and the funding process is outlined.
It is the aim that networks will work together to raise standards in literacy and mathematics, and to increase the capacity of schools to deliver a rich, broad curriculum. The focus of networks will be on strengthening pupil learning and implementing effective CPD programmes.
Opportunities for staff should focus on improving teachers' classroom practice, enriching curriculum provision and raising the attainment of particular groups of pupils. It is expected that the network activity will lead to improvements in English and mathematics as measured by teacher assessment and National Curriculum tests.
