Investors in People
Investors in
People is the National Standard which sets a level of good practice for the training and
development of all staff to achieve an organisation’s goals. The Standard was
developed during 1990 by the National Task Force supported by the Employment Department.
The Standard provides a framework for, and planned approach to, setting and communicating
priorities and objectives and developing people to meet these. The result is that what
people can do and are motivated to do matches what the organisation needs them to do. The
overall process is cyclical and supports a culture of self evaluation and continuous
improvement
The Standard
was revised for 2005 and is
based on three key principles –
PLAN
Developing strategies to improve the performance of the organisation
DO
Taking action to improve the performance of the organisation
REVIEW
Evaluating the impact of the performance of the organisation
These
three
key principles are a cyclical process and are broken down into 10 indicators, against
which organisations wishing to be recognised as an ‘Investor in People’ will be
assessed.
