In the current
thrust to raise standards, increasing attention is being paid to the Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) needs of teachers and others.
The Green Paper
(DfEE 1998) states that the Government is committed to giving teachers the training
and support they need to do their jobs well and to progress in their careers.
More recently, the
Government published the Green Paper : Building On Success (DfES, 2001) as the new
framework for raising standards for all. As part of this broad framework the DfES launched
its strategy for teachers CPD Learning and Teaching (March 2001). This
was devised in consultation with the General Teaching Council (GTC).
Our strategy and
the CPD we provide, mirrors the DfES framework for all staff by enabling teachers and
others to build upon their skills and keep up to date with the changing demands that are
placed upon them. We recognise that a professional development culture within schools
creates a more supportive and encouraging environment and reinforces our priority of
successful staff recruitment, development and retention.
